How we produce superb-quality turf The starting point for a high-quality turf is a high-quality soil. Our turf nurseries are situated on some of the best Grade 1 and 2 soils in Shropshire. These enable us to grow and reliably supply a consistent turf, all year round. Our land is free-draining when the weather is wet, and irrigated to keep our turf fresh and green during dry periods. On large, level fields, we carefully prepare a smooth and virtually stone-free surface into which we sow grass seed. But not just any grass seed! We only use the best purpose-rated grass cultivars, tested by the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI), to ensure the resultant turf is ideal for its intended final use. The growing crops undergo months of intensive care. We mow constantly. We vacuum excess grass clippings and fertilize regularly. We spray to supress weeds, disease and pests. And then we mow it and mow it again ! Finally, when our turf is mature and in superb condition, turf harvesting is carried out with modern, precision machinery to ensure consistent, neat and easily-handled rolls of turf. Turf is cut fresh daily and only to order to give the longest possible 'shelf life' and ensure that you recieve your turf in the best condition.
